Colonial mattress FIRMNESS AND SUPPORT
For this review we focused on the AmeriSleep Colonial mattress. It is on the softer side of mattress firmness. It got a firmness score of 4 out of 10 (10 being the firmest). Customers report the mattress as super comfortable. We also found that it gave a surprisingly good amount of support. We do recomend that anyone who prefers a firmer mattress should stay away from the Colonial.

People often get firmness and support confused. Back sleepers tend to find softer beds often lack good support. This is often based on old spring mattresses that sagged over time. All types of sleepers have tried the AmeriSleep and none of them reported any aches or pains. This mattress does a fantastic job blending softness with support. The soft Bio-Pur+ memory foam surface rests on 11 inches of high-density foam. Back sleepers might be surprised how good a sleep they get with a softer mattress.
Amerisleep sinkage
There is a sinkage of 2″ when laying in the middle of the Colonial mattress. This is quite good for such a soft mattress. There is little horizontal movement and sleepers can adjust without affecting their partner. The only downside of a soft mattress is the effort needed during sex. Harder, bouncier mattresses tend to be better suited for nightly exploits.
AmeriSleep mattress COOLNESS and Off-Gassing
Softer mattresses tend to sleep much hotter than firm ones. This comes from the sleeper sinking into the mattress. The Colonial mattress combats this with their Bio-Pur+ memory foam mattress. The Bio-Pur+ is 5 times more breathable than standard memory foam. The air flow is important for pulling the heat away from the sleeper. This leads to a cooler sleep, even in warm conditions.

Mattress cover
The Colonial cover is made from Celliant. If you haven’t heard about this material, it is worth looking up. Celliant is somehow able to take the heat and convert it to infrared light. This means the AmeriSleep mattress cover actually converts your heat to infrared light!
Top layer
2 inches of Bio-Pur+ memory foam make up the top layer. This revolutionary plant based foam if formed by reticulation. The process creates micro air pockets that help wick the heat away from the sleeper.
Middle Layer
4 inches of higher density foam create the perfect blend between softness and support. This layer gives the sleeper the perfect support. At the same time it allows heat to escape through it.
Bottom Layer
7 inches of high-density support foam is the foundation for this mattress. This last layer brings the total thickness of the AmeriSleep Colonial to 13 inches! One of the thickest mattresses we have ever tried.
