A Responsive Bed That Initially Feels Firmer
The Nolah mattress comes out of the box feeling a bit firmer. After sleeping on it for a while, the top layer slowly conforms to your body. It never becomes super soft, but it is soft enough for side sleepers. It seems like if you are looking for a medium mattress, the Nolah is a great choice. It’s soft, yet supportive firm and we find it strikes the perfect balance between soft and firm.
Amazing Responsiveness For A Premium Foam Mattress
The Nolah team set out to create a responsive temperature neutral sleep foam. After all their work they came up with the Nolah AirFoam. From what we’ve learned, sleepers will be surprised with how responsive the foam is. Compared to traditional Memory Foam, the Nolah AirFoam does not need to “heat up” before becoming comfortable. The feel is slightly softer than Memory Foam, but with a firm support layer underneath made of the premium Latex-like Avena foam.
A 180lbs person will sink into the mattress around 2-3 inches. This is great for side and back sleepers, but it does lack support for heavier individuals (350lbs+). The Nolah AirFoam acts like Memory Foam, muting any extra movement. There is little to no transfer of motion, making this a great mattress for relationships.
Temperature And Off Gassing
The Nolah mattress promises a cool nights sleep, and they deliver. Our research found that while the Nolah did retain some heat, it was much less than typical memory foam mattresses. The Nolah AirFoam also seems to wick away the heat better than Memory Foam. The effect comes from the fact that Nolah is made without the heat-trapping Visco chemical used in Memory Foam and in addition from the tiny air pockets created inside the Nolah AirFoam layer.
Customers may experience a small amount of off-gassing with a new Nolah mattress. However, the new mattress smell should dissipate after a few hours and its completely harmless, as the mattress is certified with CertiPUR-US, as a guarantee for being safe and made with non-toxic materials.

The Nolah get a 5 out of 10 in our firmness rating. It feels firmer initially, but grows softer as you sink into the top 2” of AirFoam. - Want a moderate level of sinkage
There is only around 2″ to 3″ of sinkage with the Nolah. The bed has a little give, but customers won’t feel like they are sinking into it. - Want a cool sleeping experience

MATTRESS CONSTRUCTION
Nolah Mattress has put a lot of time and effort into mattress construction. They know soft mattresses are notoriously too hot. They created a new type of high-resilience poly foam to combat this problem. In essence, it’s a “Memory Foam” made without the heat-trapping visco chemicals, and the company promises it to be 100% temperature neutral and that it sleeps cooler than any conventional Memory Foam mattress.
Mattress cover
Nolah went all out with their knitted viscose cover. The yarn does a great job pulling the heat away from your body. Nolah focused all their efforts on cooling their mattress down. The cover feels very sturdy and maintains its strength as you move the mattress around. I also think the Nolah cover design is one of the nicer looking patterns.
Top layer
This 2″ Nolah AirFoam layer provides a comfortable feel. The custom foam is full of tiny air pockets that pull away the heat. The mattress cups the curves of your body without causing too much heat. Besides being cooler, the top layer of AirFoam is also, according to Nolah, able to provide 4X less peak pressure on the sleeper’s hip, back and shoulders for a more comfortable sleep with fewer pressure points.
Middle Layer
1″ latex-like Avena foam is what the Leesa mattress uses. Nolah is using the firm Avena support layer to strike the perfect balance between the softer top layer and the firmer Avena layer underneath. We think they have succeeded in creating the perfect balance between soft and firm, without being too soft or losing support.
Bottom Layer
The final layer of the Nolah mattress is the 7″ foundation foam. This high density foam does a good job giving support to the back sleeper

The Nolah mattress is an amazing piece of technology. They combine many new ideas to create a novel mattress. The Nolah AirFoam top layer gives a soft sleep while maintaining a cool temperature. The Avena foam layer beneath adds the extra support needed. The foundation finishes off the mattress, providing a firm base layer. It’s perfect for side sleepers, those wanting to sleep cool, and for sleepers wishing a slightly softer mattress than Memory Foam.
