Stitchfix is an online company that provides a personalized shopping experience delivered right to your door. Taking into consideration a number of personal attributes and style preferences, the company will box up some products “picked especially for you” and they mail them to you. You get to try the clothes and accessories on for a few days, and then you return what you don’t want - free of charge. You only pay for what you keep. Seems cool, right? I’m going to tell you about my experience with Stitch Fix so you can decide for yourself.

My Experience
I logged onto the StitchFix website and signed up for an account. I was asked A LOT of questions about my height, weight, what color clothes I like, what styles I like, what kind of accessories do I wear, and on and on it went. There were a lot of questions. I felt like it was a good thing because they must be going to use all this information to send me awesome stuff!
I was a little surprised when I was asked to pay a “styling fee”, which I guess was their way of getting around actually sending stuff out for free like I originally thought. However, if you do buy some of the clothes they send you, that money is refunded or applied to your purchase. So I swallowed my pride and paid the fee.

As a person who has to try clothes on in order to buy them - sometimes I have to try them on twice to make sure they fit properly! - I was skeptical of having someone else pick out clothes for me. But for the fun of getting a surprise in the mail each month, I thought it might be worth the risk.
When my box arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see it was professionally packed and presented very well. I was really excited then! When I opened the box, I was surprised again to find some pretty cool clothes inside.

My Stitch Fix Impressions
I got two shirts, a pair of pants, a scarf and 2 necklaces. Individually, they were all really nice. I didn’t see how they were going to go together as an outfit, or if they were even supposed to be worn together. But they were nice enough. They all looked like stuff I would have purchased, but the quality was lacking a little. But for the price and the fact that it showed up on my doorstep and I could wear it right away, it was pretty good.
I decided to send the pants back to StitchFix, but I kept the necklaces and the two shirts. The were good for weekends and the necklaces could be worn with a cute dress or nice shirt. Plus, a girl can never have too many necklaces.
To be honest, I loved getting this box in the mail. It was fun to be surprised and even though I wasn’t in love with the products, I do wear them and get use out of them. Every time I put on one of those shirts I remember how fun it was to get that big box of goodies. I’d buy from them again just for the experience of seeing what they send and because I can send it back if I don’t like it only having lost my initial fee.

Overall, the experience of getting to set my style profile online was fun and interesting. I had to stop and think about what kind of clothes I wanted. You could go way out in left field and fill it out in a way that isn’t you and see what they come back with - that might be fun. I played it safe and wound up with safe stuff. I kind of wish I had filled it out a little more adventurous than I did. Lesson learned.
If you love getting mail, don’t mind waiting a few days to try on new clothes, and will definitely make the trip back to the post office to return any unwanted clothing, then giving Stitchfix a try is worth it.
