The Verdict

One membership for every studio in town, if you keep track of the rules

With ClassPass, you don't join a gym. You pay a monthly fee for a bundle of credits and spend them at any of more than 30,000 gyms, studios, spas and salons. If you get bored doing the same workout every week, or you travel and want a class wherever you land, that flexibility is the reason to sign up.

Prices are harder to pin down. The app shows a class's credit cost before you book, but that number moves with the studio, the time of day and how popular the slot is. On a 28-credit plan at $59 a month, each credit is worth about $2.11, so an 8-credit spin class costs you about $17. Book the same class at a busier hour and it can take more.

The rules matter more than the price. Cancel within 12 hours of a class and you get your credits back but pay a fee of $10 to $56. Unused credits expire at the end of the month unless you bought them, and if you cancel your membership, every remaining credit goes with it.

That helps explain the gap in ClassPass's reviews. The app holds a 4.8-star rating on the App Store from about 199,000 ratings, yet 61 of the 100 most recent reviews we read gave it one or two stars. Most were about charges after a free trial, expired credits, fees and support that rarely gets past a chatbot.

ClassPass is a good deal for people who book a class at least once a week and plan ahead. If you mostly go to one studio, that studio's own membership will usually cost less.

How ClassPass Works

When you sign up, ClassPass starts you on a free trial. Its standard offer is 14 days with 10 workouts at participating gyms and fitness studios, one visit per location. A friend's invite link raises that to 14 workouts. Spas, salons and repeat visits to a studio you liked open up only when you buy credits or start a plan. You'll need to add a card at sign-up.

If you don't cancel, the trial rolls into a monthly plan, and the sign-up page tells you which one. On the invite page we checked in Northern California, it was 28 credits for $59 a month plus tax. That plan doesn't appear on ClassPass's pricing page, which listed seven plans for the same area, from 8 credits for $19 to 125 credits for $249.

Each month brings a fresh set of credits. You book in the app, and the class shows how many credits it costs before you reserve. If you run short, you can buy more on the spot. Credits you buy roll over to the next month, up to the size of your plan. Credits that come with the plan don't.

Timing matters when you leave. ClassPass suggests canceling at least 48 hours before your renewal date. But canceling a trial takes effect right away, and any workouts you haven't used are lost. To be safe, cancel two days early and accept losing those last couple of days.

Before your first booking

Read the cancellation policy on the class page. Cancel with less than 12 hours to go and you'll pay a fee even during the free trial.

We Recommend This To Readers Who:

Plan credits expire every month, so steady booking is what gets you your money's worth.

  • Like mixing up studios

Spin, Pilates and a massage can all come out of one monthly plan.

  • Travel often

Your credits work in more than 2,500 cities.

Questions, Answered

ClassPass questions, answered

What people ask before signing up, answered from ClassPass's help center and terms.

Is ClassPass legit?

Yes. ClassPass works with more than 30,000 businesses in over 2,500 cities. Most complaints in its recent App Store reviews are about charges after a trial, credits expiring and slow support, not about classes that didn't exist.

How do I avoid being charged after the free trial?

Cancel in the app under Profile, then Settings, then Billing. ClassPass recommends doing it at least 48 hours before the trial ends. Canceling a trial ends it right away, so you lose any workouts you haven't used.

Do ClassPass credits roll over?

Only the credits you buy. They carry over to the next month, up to the number in your next plan. Credits that come with your plan, and trial workouts, expire. If you cancel, every remaining credit is lost.

How much does ClassPass cost?

It depends on your city. In Northern California in October 2026, plans ran from $19 for 8 credits to $249 for 125 credits, with a 28-credit plan at $59 after the free trial. Tax is added on top.

How does ClassPass compare with joining one studio?

If you go to the same studio most weeks, its own membership or class pack will usually cost less and spare you ClassPass's credit rules. ClassPass makes more sense when you want to switch between studios or book while you travel.

Is there a ClassPass referral code?

ClassPass referrals work through a member's link rather than a typed code. Sign up through our referral link and a new member gets 14 trial workouts instead of 10. Here's how it works on Couponsuck.

The Bottom Line Conclusion:

Should you sign up for ClassPass?

If you book a class at least once a week and like trying new places, ClassPass can cover all of it with one plan: spin, yoga, strength and the occasional massage, at home or on the road.

The rules are what cost people money. Cancel classes more than 12 hours ahead, use your plan's credits before they expire, and set a reminder two days before your trial ends. Many of the complaints we read came from people caught out by one of those.

If you're loyal to one studio, ask about its own membership or class pack first. You'll likely pay less, and there are no credits to track.
