The Verdict

Secondhand clothes from real closets, with room to haggle

Shopping on Poshmark feels a little like browsing someone else's closet. People list the clothes, shoes and bags they no longer wear, from everyday brands to designer labels, and you buy directly from them. Prices are negotiable, so if you know your sizes and the brands you like, you can often find something for considerably less than you'd pay new.

Shipping adds $6.49 to every order. That means a $15 top costs $21.49 before tax, making cheaper purchases less of a bargain than they first appear. Some sellers offer discounted or free shipping, and you can bundle several items from the same seller under one shipping charge.

Poshmark has a 4.8-star App Store rating from roughly 1.1 million ratings, though recent feedback is more mixed. Of the 100 newest reviews we examined, about a third gave the app one or two stars. Most complaints came from sellers frustrated by fees, restricted accounts and difficulty reaching customer support. Buyers more often reported problems with sellers who were slow to ship.

Your money doesn't reach the seller until the order arrives and you accept it. If an item isn't as described, you have three days from delivery to report it, and if a seller hasn't shipped within seven days, you can cancel. Beyond the price, shipping and tax, you won't pay a buyer fee.

Shoppers who search by brand and size, like a few items and wait for a seller's offer will get the most out of it. Patience is part of the price. If you'd rather shop from consistent photos, set prices and a return policy, thredUP, which prices, photographs and ships everything itself, will feel more like a regular store.

How Buying on Poshmark Works

You can shop in the app or at poshmark.com. To sign up, you'll need an email, a password and a username, and the form has a box for an invite code from another member. Entering one, such as FREETEN, gets a new member $10 in Posh Credit.

Prices are a starting point. Every listing is a single item from a single seller, and you can buy it outright or make an offer, which the seller can accept, decline or counter. Liking an item also lets the seller know you're interested. Sellers can send everyone who liked it a price at least 10% lower, sometimes with shipping cut to $4.99 or dropped entirely.

Once you've paid, the seller gets a prepaid USPS Ground Advantage label for packages up to 5 pounds and has seven days to ship. Ground Advantage usually takes two to five business days.

When the package arrives, check it before anything else. Accepting the order releases your money to the seller, and if you don't, Poshmark accepts it for you after three days. If something's wrong, report it inside that window, and Poshmark decides whether you get a refund. You can also cancel any order within three hours of buying.

Before you buy

Check the measurements and condition notes, and message the seller with any questions. Most sales are final, so the time to ask is before you pay.

We Recommend This To Readers Who:

  • Know their sizes and favorite brands

A search for one brand in your size cuts out everything that won't fit.

  • Don't mind waiting for a better price

Like an item, and the seller may send you an offer of at least 10% off.

  • Like to buy several pieces at once

A bundle from one seller pays the $6.49 shipping only once.

Questions, Answered

Poshmark questions, answered

What people ask before buying, answered from Poshmark's own help center and policies.

Is Poshmark legit?

Yes. Poshmark has been running since 2011, and Naver, the South Korean internet company, has owned it since 2023. Your payment is held until you accept the order, and you have three days from delivery to report an item that isn't as described. Most complaints in recent reviews are about individual sellers or how hard it is to reach support.

Can I return something on Poshmark?

Only when the listing says it accepts returns, or when the item isn't as described, which you need to report within three days of delivery. Otherwise, the sale is final. You can cancel any order within three hours of buying.

How much is shipping on Poshmark?

$6.49 for a package up to 5 pounds, paid by the buyer, as of October 2026. In an offer, a seller can lower it to $4.99 or cover it entirely, and several items from one seller ship for one charge.

What does Poshmark charge sellers?

Listing is free. When something sells, Poshmark keeps 20% of sales of $15 or more, or a flat $2.95 on anything less. The buyer pays for shipping, and the seller gets a prepaid label.

How does Poshmark compare with thredUP?

thredUP works like a store: it photographs, prices and ships everything itself. Poshmark is a marketplace of individual sellers, so you can negotiate, but photos, descriptions and shipping speed depend on who you're buying from.

Is there a Poshmark referral code?

Yes. Ours is FREETEN. Type it into the Invite Code box when you sign up, and according to Poshmark's help center, you'll get $10 in Posh Credit toward your first purchase. Here's how it works on Couponsuck.

The Bottom Line Conclusion:

Should you shop on Poshmark?

If you know your sizes and the brands you like, Poshmark can get you clothes for less than buying them new, and you're well protected when something arrives wrong. It makes the most sense on pieces worth more than a few dollars, or on several from one seller, where one $6.49 shipping charge covers the whole bundle.

Treat every purchase as final, because most are. Read the measurements, ask the seller anything you're unsure of, and open the package the day it arrives. Three days isn't long. If easy returns matter more to you than price, a retailer with a return policy will suit you better.

Before paying full price, make an offer or like the item and wait. On $30 jeans, a seller's 10% offer with free shipping saves you $9.49.
