Speakeasy SF Review 2016

We have broken our review into three different sections. The first part is a story synopsis with spoilers. The second section is the pros of the event. The third section is the areas of improvement.

Speakeasy SF Synopsis. *Warning Spoilers inside*
We had no idea where the Speakeasy SF was actually located until right before the event. A few days before the event a text message arrives on your phone. It tells you where to be and who to look for. More importantly, customers learn the secret phrase that grants access to the speakeasy.

We met a woman in a yellow trench coat on the corner of two streets. We told her our secret phrase (wouldn’t you like to know what it was). Her job was to run us through some house rules.

She directed us to another gentleman who made sure we had already purchased our bar tab online. Then he gave us directions to the hidden entrance and we were off.

We walked down a non discript staircase and into the 1920’s. It was a truly amazing transformation. We entered a Cabarat with a live band and dancers. Waiters whisked drinks to our tables while the Flappers preformed on stage. The host entertained us with jokes and songs.

Then the music dimmed and we saw the prohibition bar owner arguing with one of his managers. Things were exactly what they seemed at this bar. The cabarat show continued but there was intriugue in the air.

We left the room and headed to the bar where other characters were interacting. There were so many actors and they all seemed to have their own storyline. After watching a young child order a milk at the bar we went to gamble in the casino.

We rubbed elbows with gangters and lowly dock workers at the blackjack table. The dealers would pass notes to lucky customers pulling them into the story. It was all very exciting.

There are so many stories happening at once. We would have to see the show a hundred times to have seen them all. We picked our favorite characters and did our best to follow them around. It was a magical evening that we won’t forget soon.

The Good

The Actors

The Speakeasy SF has some of the best acting we have ever seen. The Speakeasy SF pulled in some amazingly talented actors. We felt and cared for these characters by the end of the night. We cant count the number of beautiful preformances we saw in the event. A few that were only seen by one or two event goers.

The Story

The interweaving story lines make for a wonderfully exciting night. We were pulled and pushed through the lives of the different characters. We felt for the sad drunk, while being outraged at the bar owners abuse of his dancer.

You will want to visit the Sf Speakeasy again and again. We can’t comprehend how many unique story moments we missed. If you go with a friend, we recommend splitting up. That way you can see different things. We will definitely be visiting again to add more information to our San Francisco Speakeasy Review.

The world Speakeasy SF created

We loved how everything worked in the world. No one tells you where to go, but it still works. The actors never left character even when there may have been no one watching them. For all intents and purposes we were in a Speakeasy during prohibtion times.

The Audience

One of the best parts about the Speakeasy SF were the audience themselves. People came dressed almost as well as the actors. The crowd was respectful and attentive which makes for a great experience.

The Music

The singing and dancing were just as great as the acting. We were blown away by the level of musical talent throughout the entire night. We could have spent hours in the bar just listening to the piano man. Its rare to find a great combination of music and acting talent.

The bad

A tad bit crowded

When we first showed up at our secret location there was a large clustering of other event goers. It was supposed to be a hidden speakeasy. Instead we waited in line while other people checked in.

We also found that it was hard to find a place at the tables in the casino room. We tried to elbow our way in a few times, but it wasn’t really worth it. The other rooms didn’t feel crowded, so we explored those instead.

The Set

We thought the cabaret room set design could have been a tiny bit better. This is a super nit picky critique, but it is hard to find much else. The bar and other rooms feel very finished comparatively.
