Tango Mattress Review

Tango Mattress Review

I had heard a lot about the Tango mattress because of the unique two-sided design. The idea is that one side of the mattress is soft, and one side of the mattress is firm. This is a great mattress option for people who are not sure what kind of mattress they prefer. I decided to try the Tango mattress to decide for myself if it was worth all the hype.

Ordering The Bed

Ordering the Tango mattress is easy. Customers just log on to the Tango website and placed their order for a range of mattresses. A queen is just under $1000USD for the mattress which is pretty standard for the industry.

The bed is shipped directly to you door, and arrives in a tall narrow box. It always surprises me when a mattress arrives in a box, but that’s how they are doing it these days! I didn’t hesitate to try the mattress because the company offers a free trial period of 120 days and if I decided to keep the mattress, my credit card would be charged the full price of the mattress. 120 days is 6 months in case you missed that. That’s an incredible trial period.

Tango Mattress Construction

The Tango mattress is made from a variety of materials in order to achieve the soft and firm aspects of the mattress. Having a dual sided mattress makes for interesting tests. Once the mattress reached its fully restored size and shape, I was able to take the mattress for a test drive. But not before looking at the high quality construction of the mattress. This mattress will stack up against a lot of other mattresses that you can order online, because this mattress has a solid support core that is covered on either side by either a soft support or firm support layer depending on which side you choose. The mattress feels cool to the touch, but it is hard to tell if it is actually cooling gel in the mattress just from touching it. A quick check of the website confirmed it had memory foam gel included in the construction of the mattress. There is also a temperature regulating cover included with the mattress.

My Sleeping Experience

I didn’t sleep on my Tango mattress the first night I had it because I wanted to give it as much time as possible to “come back to life” after being in the box from shipping. On the second night, I made the bed and laid on the soft side of the mattress. I thought I was a firm bed person, but I really enjoyed the soft side of the mattress. I could tell the mattress was cooler than other mattresses I had in the past. I like to sleep in a slightly cooler room with a lot of blankets, and I felt like I just sank into this mattress. I went right sleep. I flipped the mattress the next morning and tried the firm side. As I was placing sheets and blankets back on the bed, I noticed how much firmer the other side was the soft side, which I knew about, but wasn’t expecting such a difference. After sleeping on the soft side, it took me a minute to get used to the firm nature of the other side of the mattress. I found it comfortable, and cooling, like the soft side, but there was definitely more support than the soft side provided.

To conduct a more thorough test, I spent the next week sleeping on the firm side of the bed, and then flipped the mattress again to the soft side to test that for another week. At the end of the two week test period, I was sold on the soft side. Because I don’t have any back problems, I enjoyed sinking into the soft side of the mattress, and found it very cozy to curl up into at night. I liked the firm side too, but if I have to choose, I would pick the soft side. What’s great about this mattress is that there is no right or wrong answer because it’s designed with personal preference in mind.

The Cons

Unfortunately, all great things must come to an end…at least to some degree. While I thoroughly enjoyed playing flip games with my Tango mattress, my wife was not impressed with the change scene in the bedroom. She likes to sleep on a firm mattress and enjoyed sleeping on that side much more than the soft side. She also doesn’t have any problems with her back, but she prefered the firm side for the support it gave her. The only downfall of this mattress was that because we both had different preferences, one of us was going to have to concede. You better believe it was me. Happy wife, happy life, after all.

Tango Mattress Review Summary

Rating 9.4

In a nutshell, this mattress is worth testing because of the 120 day free trial. I mean, what have you got to lose? And it doesn’t take 120 days to decide if you like a mattress or not. If you sleep alone and want options in your choice of mattress, this is a great choice for you. If you share a bed with someone, it will help a great deal if you both have the same preferences for sleeping. Another thing that will impact your comfort level on either side of the mattress is your weight. Obviously the less you weigh, the less sinking you will experience; if you weigh more, you will experience more sinking on either side of the mattress. But the firm stood up well to my 200 pound frame and my wife’s 160 pound frame. She liked the firm side a lot and I like the soft side.

Final Thoughts

Once we were able to pick a side that we could both enjoy, we decided to keep the mattress. It is made of high quality materials, solid construction, has a lot of cooling effect that makes it easier to stay cool while sleeping, and it’s nice to have choice of firmness for when my wife is out of town!
