The Verdict

A Familiar App With One Distinctly European Twist

After a month living in Austria and ordering weekly, our reviewer found LieferService an easy switch from Uber Eats and DoorDash. The app itself translates into English, though individual restaurant menus don't — expect to do a little guessing about what exactly you're ordering.

Delivery is free once an order clears a low minimum, usually under 15 euros, and payment options include PayPal, credit card, a local system called SOFORT Uberweisung, and — most notably — cash on delivery. That last option isn't something US delivery apps typically offer, and it solved a real problem: American credit cards can trip up local card readers that expect a signature, something Austrian merchants don't always anticipate.

The actual delivery experience mirrors what US users already know: a notification when the order is on its way, then payment (cash, in our reviewer's case) at the door. No surprises, no friction.

The only real hesitation is a logistical one — allowing cash payment raises an obvious 'what happens if someone orders and disappears' question that the review doesn't fully resolve. In practice, though, ordering and delivery were both simple enough to make LieferService an easy recommendation for anyone used to app-based delivery back home.

Pros

Why We Love It

  • App interface is available in English
  • Ordering and delivery flow feels just like Uber Eats or DoorDash
  • Free delivery once your order clears a minimum, usually under €15
  • Cash-on-delivery option avoids US credit card and signature issues with local card readers
Cons

Considerations

  • Menu items themselves aren't translated, so ordering requires some guesswork
  • Cash payment leaves an open question about accountability if an order goes unpaid

Our Hands-On Review

The app translates cleanly into English, which made getting started painless despite being new to the Austrian market. Menus stayed in the local language, though, so ordering took a bit of trial and error the first few times.

Payment offered more choice than expected: PayPal, credit card, an unfamiliar local option called SOFORT Uberweisung, and cash on delivery. Cash became the default choice, mainly to sidestep the friction of US credit cards at card readers that expect a signature — something that isn't standard practice in Austria.

Why Cash Works Here

Paying cash at the door sidestepped a recurring annoyance: American credit cards sometimes trip up local card readers that expect a signature, which Austrian merchants don't always anticipate.

We Recommend This To Readers Who:

  • Are used to Uber Eats or DoorDash

The ordering and delivery flow will feel immediately familiar.

  • Are living in or visiting Austria (or elsewhere in Europe)

LieferService operates across a variety of European countries.

  • Want to avoid US credit card hassles abroad

Cash on delivery sidesteps signature-reader issues some US cards run into locally.

The Bottom Line Conclusion:

The Bottom Line

LieferService is easy to use, with delivery that's a breeze and the added convenience of paying cash at the door — a smooth pick for anyone already comfortable with app-based food delivery.
