The Verdict

Real cash back, as long as you don't need it soon

ShopBack pays you to start your online shopping in a different place. Instead of going straight to the retailer, you open the store from its app or website and pay as usual, and part of what you spend comes back as money you can send to PayPal or your bank. Joining is free, and you'll pay the store's normal price.

Patience is what it really costs you. Your cash back should appear in your account within a couple of days, but you can't withdraw it until the store confirms your order. ShopBack's store pages put that at 45 days for DoorDash, 75 for Best Buy and 90 for Target, so a Black Friday order at Target could still be waiting in late February.

The rates can be good when your shopping lines up with them. Target paid 2% at last check, against the 1% showing on Rakuten, and short boosts took Nike from 2% to 9%. Amazon isn't on the list at all, and Target's 2% skips groceries and electronics.

Customer reviews are split. ShopBack has a 4.4-star App Store rating, but about 40% of the reviews posted there so far in 2026 gave it one or two stars, while about half gave it five. Unhappy customers mostly describe orders that were rejected or never tracked, and payouts that took months. We haven't used ShopBack ourselves, so what we say about tracking and payouts comes from its help center, store pages and those reviews.

Pros

Why We Love It

  • It's free to join, with no fee to withdraw
  • You get real money through PayPal or a US bank, not points or store credit
  • You can withdraw whenever you have $10 confirmed, with no quarterly wait
  • Boosted rates can multiply a store's usual percentage for a few days
  • It works through the app, the website or a browser extension
Cons

Considerations

  • Stores take 45 to 95 days to confirm, so don't budget around money that hasn't cleared
  • Amazon isn't a ShopBack store, so it won't help with Amazon orders
  • Ad blockers, private browsing and switching devices mid-purchase can all break tracking
  • Coupon codes that aren't listed on ShopBack can cost you the cash back at some stores
  • Disputes go to private arbitration in Singapore, and you give up class actions

How ShopBack Works

ShopBack signs you up with a mobile number, and each number can hold just one account. It's open to adults in the 50 states and Washington, D.C., and you can use it through the app, the website or a browser extension that flags cash back while you shop.

Read the store's ShopBack page before you buy, because the headline number rarely covers everything. Walmart's "up to $8" is a flat amount tied to specific orders, like a Walmart+ sign-up or a new customer's first purchase. ShopBack says an existing Walmart customer earns on a single walmart.com order, so save it for a big one. Target's 2% applies to categories like clothing and beauty, and leaves out groceries, electronics and toys.

Timing confuses a lot of new members. The sign-up screen promises cash back in your account in 72 hours, and an order usually does appear as Pending within 48. Pending money can't be withdrawn. It waits there until the store's return window has passed and the store has approved the sale, and travel bookings don't confirm until after your trip.

You'll want to check on every order. If nothing has shown up after 48 hours, you have 30 days from the purchase date to file a missing cash back report, which is far less time than a store takes to confirm. Cash back also disappears if you go more than 12 months without a qualifying purchase.

Getting paid is simple by comparison. Once you have $10 confirmed, you can withdraw up to $300 a day, and the money usually arrives within 10 calendar days, or up to 30 around federal holidays. If you choose PayPal and your email isn't linked to an account, claim the payment within 30 days or it goes back to ShopBack.

Before you buy

Turn off your ad blocker, start at ShopBack and finish the purchase in that same session. Look for the order under Pending two days later, while you can still report it.

We Recommend This To Readers Who:

  • Buy from ShopBack's stores regularly

Target, Best Buy, Nike and Sephora are all there, so it's a small routine to add to orders you were placing anyway.

  • Can wait a few months for the money

Retail orders often take 75 to 95 days to clear, so don't count on this money for upcoming bills.

  • Check rates before a big purchase

Boosts come and go within days, and they can pay several times a store's usual percentage.

Questions, Answered

ShopBack questions, answered

What people ask before signing up, answered from ShopBack's help center, terms and store pages.

Is ShopBack legit?

Yes. ShopBack was founded in Singapore in 2014 and pays US members real money through PayPal or bank transfer. Stores pay it a commission and it passes part of that to you. Most complaints we read were about orders that didn't track or get approved.

How long does ShopBack take to pay?

Most of the wait is the store's. ShopBack's store pages list 45 to 95 days to confirm at the big retailers we checked, and travel confirms after your trip. Once you withdraw, the money usually arrives within 10 calendar days.

Does ShopBack work on Amazon?

No. ShopBack says Amazon isn't a US store on its service right now, and Amazon orders don't count toward the new-member bonus either.

Why was my ShopBack cash back rejected?

ShopBack lists canceled or returned orders, clicking a third-party offer during your purchase, and using a promo code it doesn't advertise. You can appeal from your cash back overview, and you have 30 days from purchase to report an order that never appeared.

Can ShopBack see my card number?

No. You pay the store directly at its own checkout, and ShopBack says it doesn't see your card details.

Does ShopBack cash back expire?

It can. ShopBack's terms say you forfeit your cash back if you go more than 12 months without a qualifying purchase.

How does ShopBack compare with Rakuten?

Rakuten pays four times a year with a $5 minimum and has a 4.8-star App Store rating from about 362,000 ratings. ShopBack lets you withdraw any time once you reach $10, and its Target rate was higher at last check. Rakuten suits you if you'd rather stick with the bigger name, and ShopBack if you want to chase boosts.

Is there a ShopBack referral code?

Yes. Ours is imVdnn, and new members get a $15 bonus with it. Type it exactly as shown or use our referral link. The bonus stays locked until you've made a qualifying purchase and added your withdrawal details. ShopBack's pages ask for $5 or $10 of spending, and one also asks for $5 of your own confirmed cash back before you withdraw. Our ShopBack referral code page has the details.

The Bottom Line Conclusion:

Should you use ShopBack?

If you already shop online at stores like Target, Best Buy or Sephora, ShopBack is worth adding. It's free and the cash is real, as long as you start each purchase at ShopBack, keep your ad blocker off and check that the order shows up. Expect the odd rejected order. The best time to open it is before a big purchase or around a major sale, when boosted rates show up.

Count the money once it reaches your PayPal or bank, and not before. A lot of the frustration in customer reviews comes from balances that looked like cash but hadn't been confirmed yet.

If most of your shopping happens on Amazon or at the grocery store, you won't get much from it. And if you need the money this month, take any store discount you can get at checkout first. ShopBack's rate won't reach you for months.
