The Door Review

The first episode of the Kansas Collection was called the Key.  It introduced us to the current world of Oz. The second episode was called the Axe and it introduced us to the Lion, Tin Man, and Glinda the good witch. The Door is the third episode of the collection and we finally find Dorothy. Take a step with me into next chapter of this immersive series.

The Door Synopsis *Spoilers Inside*
By the time I stepped into the waiting room for The Door I finally felt like I understood everything clearly. The seriers takes place in the world after Dorothy had killed the wicked witch of the West and gone back to Kansas. The only problem is things in Oz were going down hill. Glinda and the Tin Man are fighting against the Scarecrow, war is everywhere and nothing is as it seems.

The other important thing I learned was more about Princess Ozma. She believes herself to be the rightful ruler of Oz and is currently inhibiting the body of Phoebe (one of the scarecrows helpers).

The Door began with an message from the Wizard. He let me know that he had discovered Dorothy’s location. I arrived at the house and waited with a few other recruits until the wizard appeared. He looked pretty beaten up, and mentioned that he had been tortured by Phoebe. (I should have paid more attention to this.)

We follow him into the house where we find Dorothy. She still has braids in her hair, but she can’t really remember Oz. She is unsure if the Land of Oz was even real or just the result of a concussion. To prove it was real, the Wizard uses magic and cards to tell her story. There is a dramatic buildup and at the end the Wizard betrays Dorothy!

It turns out Phoebe tortured him until he promised to deliver her Dorothy. He brought all of us (and the keys we received at the first part) to Dorothy. The Scarecrow’s henchmen, Pheobe and Phil were able to come into our world using our keys to guide them. Phil steals Dorothy away to Oz while Phoebe stays with us.

The wizard leaves and we discover that Ozma (the princess) is controlling Phoebe. She has plans to marry the Scarecrow and become the ruler of Oz once again. After dropping that bomb shell on us she shoves us out the door and into the night. I walk away  eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Kansas collection.

The Good…

-The Acting. The Speakeasy Society never lets me down when it comes to quality of acting. The Door is filled with some intense moments and I find myself getting more and more caught up in the story. I look forward as things continue to heat up between the characters.

-The Concept. I love the idea of a series of immersive theater events. I feel like I am in a real life game of thrones, watching from inside the TV. If you want a 4D TV show experience, the Kansas Collection is the best you will find.

Constructive Criticism…

-The Experience. This overall experience of The Room was less involved than the first two parts. I was only in one room for the entire event. I also felt less involved in the experience than I did in the Axe or Key. I found myself more of an observer and less an person in their world.

The Door Review Summary

I am really enjoying the Kansas Collection. It’s not too late to get on board and catch up to the story. I eagerly look forward to the next part to find out what is coming next.

I give the Door a 9.1 rating.
