Turo connects car owners with renters, handling the insurance and paperwork that would normally make renting from a stranger feel risky. Owners create a listing, renters search and choose, and Turo manages the exchange between the two parties.
Safety measures held up well under scrutiny. Renters photograph the car at drop-off, and those images upload to Turo to track any damage or mileage discrepancy, with Turo standing behind pursuing the renter if the car comes back damaged. Every driver is also required to carry insurance.
The selection is the real draw. Turo offers a diversity of vehicles a traditional rental counter like Hertz can't match, including electric cars, hybrids, trucks, and vans, filterable by features like automatic drive, 4-wheel drive, bike racks, and GPS. Because individual owners set prices, shopping around often turns up better deals than a fixed rental rate.
We tested the full process with a tester who needed an SUV for a Vegas trip. Creating an account took minutes with an email, credit card, and driver's license. After filtering by SUVs that would deliver to the house and adjusting price and mileage limits, the owner accepted the rental in under 10 minutes, well inside Turo's 8-hour response window. Pickup and return both involved photos and a license check on both sides, keeping the whole exchange documented and safe.
