The Verdict

A Monthly Surprise Worth the Wait

Vinyl Me, Please sends a package to your door each month built around a special limited-edition vinyl, paired with an original piece of artwork and a cocktail recipe designed to go with it. For anyone who loves records, or knows someone who does, it turns a simple purchase into a recurring surprise.

The $27 monthly price gave us a moment of pause before signing up, but a promo code helped tip the decision. Once the record arrived, unwrapping it revealed a beautiful vinyl and matching artwork, worth the wait after checking the mailbox more than we'd like to admit.

The month we tested featured BadBadNotGood, a modern jazz band from Toronto, a genre outside our usual listening habits. That's part of the appeal: discovering a band we might never have found on our own. The included artwork was more unconventional, ending up as a gift for a more artistically inclined friend rather than something we hung ourselves, and the cocktail recipe, a Sax on the Beach, sent us out shopping for the right ingredients.

At $27, the subscription actually runs cheaper than many individual records bought in stores, which makes the recurring discovery factor feel like a bonus rather than the main cost. It's a small, easy way to support new artists in the process.

We've kept our own subscription running even after finishing this review, which says as much about the experience as anything else we could write here.

Considerations

  • Included artwork and music genre are a surprise each month and may not match personal taste

Our Hands-On Review

We signed up as soon as we heard about the service, with the $27 price giving us a moment of pause before a promo code helped us decide. After that, waiting for the record to arrive took real patience, with plenty of time spent checking the mailbox.

Once it arrived, we unwrapped the box to find the vinyl and artwork inside, immediately pulling the record out to play. The month's pick was BadBadNotGood, a modern jazz band from Toronto, different from what we normally listen to but genuinely enjoyable.

The included artwork was more unconventional than expected, leaving us second-guessing our own taste before deciding to pass it along as a gift to a more artistically-inclined friend. The month's cocktail recipe, a Sax on the Beach, sent us out to pick up ingredients we didn't already have on hand.
