Eight Smart Mattress Review
A reactive-foam hybrid mattress that bakes Eight's smart cover technology, sleep tracking, dual-zone warming, and a smart alarm, directly into the bed.
The Eight Smart Mattress can keep you cool or warm you up. Sleepers can adjust temperatures for each side of the bed.
Our reviewerA Mattress That Thinks Like Its Cover
After reviewing the Eight Sleep mattress cover, Eight took the logical next step and built its own mattress around the same technology. The result carries a 6-out-of-10 firmness, built on a reactive top foam that reacts like latex but feels like memory foam, bouncier than typical foam beds.
Support comes from a unique cell structure layered over 4 inches of high-density foam, and we measured 2 inches of sinkage, right in line with what we'd expect at this firmness level, giving comfort without giving up support.
Heat management stood out. The top layer is purpose-built to stay cool, and the mattress also includes a genuine warming feature, letting couples dial in separate temperatures for each side of the bed. We found no off-gassing complaints beyond the faint, quickly-dissipating smell typical of any foam mattress unboxing.
What sets the Eight Smart apart is the smart layer built on top of the comfort layers: home integration with your bedroom's lights and temperature, nightly sleep tracking, dual-zone bed warming, and a smart alarm, features that used to require buying Eight's mattress cover separately.
Why We Love It
- Reactive top foam gives a bouncier feel than typical memory foam beds
- Dual-zone warming lets couples set different temperatures on each side
- Home integration, sleep tracking, and a smart alarm are built into the mattress itself
- Free shipping, 100-night trial, and a 10-year warranty
Considerations
- At 6/10, the firmness may be too firm for sleepers who prefer a plush, soft-sink feel
- The temperature and sleep-tracking features assume you're comfortable with a smart, connected mattress
Sleeping On the Eight Smart
The top 2 inches of reactive foam gave a noticeably bouncier response than the memory foam beds we've tested, without losing the pressure relief foam is known for. Sinkage measured about 2 inches, enough to feel cushioned without sinking too deep.
The cooling promise held up: the specially designed top layer kept the surface from trapping heat, and the built-in warming feature meant each side of the bed could be set to its own temperature, a genuinely useful feature for couples who disagree on how warm the bed should be.
Smart Features Built Into the Bed
Home integration, nightly sleep tracking, and a smart alarm, features that used to live only in Eight's separate mattress cover, now come built into the mattress itself.
